Subject of Square: Founders Park

Quilter’s Name: Karen Raynes

Background on subject: This is a park by the Meeting House Green that honors Hampton's founding families and the daughter towns from 1638. The boulder in the center of the park is dedicated to the Reverend Stephen Bachiler and his followers, who settled Hampton, then called Winnacunnet.

Why you chose this subject: I chose Founders Park because not many know the history of the place yet many pass by it each day.

Thoughts on your representation/design/color choices/etc.: I set the park in the sky giving it a kind of out of this world feel, a special place.

What you hope this quilt will mean for the people who see it: I hope that people will look further into the history of the park. Each button on the square represents a founding family and in the corners are buttons for Hampton’s daughter towns.
