Subject of Square:
Fall On The Green
Quilter’s Name:
Claire McGrail
Background on subject:
The Historical Society Green is beautiful year-round.
When it’s covered with snow in the deep winter, the sense of serenity is palpable.
In the spring when the trees start to bud and everything comes to life, it's
wonderful to see the rebirth. In the summer, the grass is so green and frequently
visitors sit under the trees or play with children in this lovely setting. But there is
nothing quite like the beauty of autumn on the Green as the trees are changing
color and wind whips the leaves around as they fall.
Why you chose this subject:
The Green
is literally and figuratively the center of
the museum grounds. Portraying it in all
its fall glory was very appealing.
Thoughts on your representation/design/color choices/etc.:
Orange is such a predominant color in the
fall that the pumpkins seemed to represent
that best. The falling leaves show the
process as well as the colors.
What you hope this quilt will mean for the people who see it:
I hope that when
people see the quilt and look at what is depicted in all the squares that they'll make
a commitment to visit the museum again or perhaps even for the first time!
