Subject of Square:
Fall Festival
Quilter’s Name:
Lori Cotter
Background on subject:
The Fall Festival was started in 2021 as a way to celebrate
the fall season on our beautiful Green. It’s a wonderful community event that
includes music, entertainment, games, and fun for all ages. The Fall Festival was
originally envisioned as a replacement event for the annual pig roast that HHS
held for many years and the festival has now become a new and wonderful
tradition in its own right.
Why you chose this subject:
I chose this subject to capture what the Fall Festival
brings to our community. It’s a great event that has something for everyone. Kids
love the games, the balloon man, and the face-painting. And of course, everyone
loves the petting zoo!
Thoughts on your representation/design/color choices/etc.:
I wanted to capture the fun of the Fall
Festival by showing the child with the
balloons. The colorful leaves depict the
wonderful time of the year, and the HHS
logo almost looks like one of the balloons!
What you hope this quilt will mean for the people who see it:
I hope that the quilt will
encourage people to check out all that the Hampton Historical Society has to
offer, and I hope that this square in particular encourages anyone who hasn’t
attended the Fall Festival to plan to join in the fun in the future!
