Background on subject:
Before the English arrived in this area, later known
as Hampton, it was the summer home of Native Americans who came to hunt and
fish. In 1638 English Puritans led by the Reverend Stephen Bachiler settled here
to raise their cattle. The town of Hampton was founded in 1638 and became the
4th English Settlement in the New World
Why you chose this subject:
This early map of
Hampton shows us how our town has grown
from a town of less than 500 to its current
population of over 16,000.

Thoughts on your representation/design/color
choices/etc.: I stitched the streets in basic
black and the shoreline in blue. Each red dot
signifies a home in 1806.
What you hope this quilt will mean for the people who see it:
I hope this quilt helps to enlighten people about the early
days of Hampton and some of the unique artifacts, lifestyle and architecture of its
residents.
