Subject of Square:
Reverend Ira S. Jones
Quilter’s Name:
Karen Raynes
Background on subject:
In 1925, Reverend Ira S. Jones had the energy and the desire
to gather, support and found the museum of history that we now call the Tuck Museum
of Hampton History.
Why you chose this subject:
I chose Reverend
Ira S. Jones because in preparing for the
celebration of the 100th anniversary of the
museum, I found that he was one of the key
people in establishing the museum.
Thoughts on your representation/design/color choices/etc.:
I wanted Jones to stand out on his
own. His black overcoat, top hat and white
moustache make him an impressive figure on a quilt square.
What you hope this quilt will mean for the people who see it:
By showcasing the
Reverend Ira S. Jones, I would hope that people would like to know more about the man
and his story.
